Application Guidelines for the Invitation Letter from Sun Yat-sen Unviersity for the 2026 Chinese Government Scholarship—Bilateral Program

In accordance with the relevant regulations of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and the China Scholarship Council, and in light of the actual circumstances of Sun Yat-sen University (hereinafter referred as “SYSU”), these application guidelines are hereby formulated.
I. Preliminary Registration Deadlines for Invitation Letters
First Round: January 12, 2026
Second Round: February 12, 2026
II. Programs Offered
Please refer to the Catalog of Undergraduate, Master’s, and Doctoral Programs for International Students at Sun Yat-sen University in 2026: Chinese Government Scholarship— Bilateral Program (Appendix 1) .
The official program catalog is subject to approval by the Ministry of Education. Applications for programs outside the approved catalog will be considered invalid.
III. Application and Admission Procedures
Step 1: Applicants for bachelor’s degree programs must take the “China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA)” for Undergraduate Admission.
Applicants must participate in the China Scholastic Competency Assessment (hereinafter referred to as the “CSCA Test”) for undergraduate admission, organized by the CSC, and obtain a test score. For details on the test schedule and content, please visit the CSCA official website: https://csca.cn/home.
For the required test subjects and the language of the test papers for each major or program, please refer to the SYSU Majors Catalog for Undergraduate International Students in 2026.
Step 2: Applicants of Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral Degree Programs Complete and Submit the Online Application
Sun Yat-sen University International Student Application System (hereinafter referred to as the “Application System”) website: http://apply.sysu.edu.cn
Applicants should register an account in the Application System, log in to complete the application information, and submit the required application materials (see Section VII of these guidelines for details).
Step 3: Upload Signed Documents
Applicants should download the automatically generated Application Information Form from the Application System (including the “Letter of Commitment”, and the “Proof of Financial Support by Applicant” or “Proof of Financial Guarantee”), print the hard copy, sign it by hand, and upload the signed version to the system.
Step 4: Qualification Review
SYSU will conduct a comprehensive review of the preliminary registration materials, examining the applicant’s foreign nationality, highest degree obtained, academic performance, language proficiency, recommendation letters, and proof of no criminal record.
Step 5: Download Invitation Letter
From January to February 2026, SYSU will issue invitation letters to preliminary applicants who meet the eligibility criteria based on a comprehensive review. Applicants can log in to the Application System to download their invitation letters.

V. Supervision
1. Responsibility for Submitted Materials: Applicants are responsible for the authenticity of all materials they submit. In accordance with Chinese national regulations and SYSU’s rules, any applicant found to have submitted falsified materials will have their invitation revoked, and the matter will be reported to the relevant authorities.
2. Students who receive an invitation letter must submit their application to the international student dispatch office in their country of nationality and obtain a recommendation. The dispatch office is usually the Chinese embassy or consulate in that country. Applicants who fail to meet the recommendation requirements or provide false information will have their eligibility for the Chinese Government Scholarship—Bilateral Program canceled.
