Application Guide for the 2022 Chinese Government Scholarship-Chinese University Postgraduate Program, Sun Yat-sen University

In accordance with the relevant regulations of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of the Ministry of Education and China Scholarship Council, and the actual conditions of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), this guide is formulated as follows.
I. Introduction
The Chinese Government Scholarship-Chinese University Postgraduate Program, a full scholarship program established by the Ministry of Education of China in 2008 for international students, aims to support Chinese high-level universities and to promote a brand of Chinese higher education. Students are recruited independently by key universities in China. SYSU is one of the universities designated to recruit international students to study in postgraduate degree program (Ph.D. degree and Master's degree) under this scholarship.
Ⅱ. Eligibility
1. Applicants should be non-Chinese citizens with a valid foreign passport.
2. Applicants should be in good health and meet the physical standards that are required for applying for student visa or residence permit.
3. Applicants for master's programs must hold a bachelor's degree equivalent to that of Chinese universities and be under (or at) the age of 35; applicants for doctoral programs must hold a master's degree equivalent to that of Chinese universities and be under (or at) the age of 40.
4. Applicants should be friendly to China, hardworking and diligent in their studies with excellent academic performance, upstanding and law-abiding, without any records of violations of the rules and regulations of their school, or any other security penalties or criminal records.
5. Applicants should have an HSK (level V) certificate (with 180 points or above). Those who have completed their last degree with Chinese as the language of instruction should submit certificates of Chinese language proficiency issued by their former university and can be exempted from providing HSK certificates after SYSU's verification.
Ⅲ. Scholarship Coverage and Standards

3. Living allowance (RMB 3,000/month/person for master's programs; RMB 3,500/month/person for doctoral programs)
4. Comprehensive medical insurance
Note: If there is any change in the funding standards above, the standards released by the China Scholarship Council.
Ⅳ. Application Procedures
1. Online application in the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System. Applicants should visit http://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn or http://www.campuschina.org. for online application. (Type: B; Agency No. of SYSU: 10558). After submitting the completed Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship, applicants should print a hard copy with signature on it.
2. Online application in the SYSU system. Applicants are required to visit SYSU Office of International Students' Affairs (http://iso.sysu.edu.cn) for online application. Please choose “APPLY ONLINE”, register and log in. Applicants should then select a project: Application Guide for the 2022 Chinese Government Scholarship-Chinese University Postgraduate Program, Sun Yat-sen University. Fill in relevant information correctly and completely, and upload the application materials.
(1) Valid ordinary passport (Applicants staying in China at the time of application should provide the scanned copy of passport pages with the Chinese visa or residence permit page and entry seal. If the applicant was a Chinese citizen and later acquired foreign citizenship, he/she must also provide a certificate of cancellation of household registration, a certificate of giving up Chinese citizenship, or an official document certifying that he/she has no Chinese citizenship issued by the Chinese diplomatic representation and consular authorities)
(2) Degree certificate (Fresh graduates can first provide a pre-graduation certificate from their current school. Applicants who graduated from institutions outside of the Chinese mainland must hold a bachelor's or master's degree from an institution recognized by the Chinese Ministry of Education)
(3) Complete transcripts of studies (The school issued a complete report card, signature and seal.)
(4) Chinese language proficiency certificate (valid HSK certificate issued no more than two years ago or proof of Chinese language instruction in the previous degree)
(5) Two Letters of recommendation (recommendation letters signed by professors or associate professors in Chinese or English.) with their signatures, title information, and contact information of the recommenders. If the recommendation letter(s) is/are sealed, applicants can send the paper version directly to the Office of International Students' Affairs, Admissions Office of Education administration, Sun Yat-sen University, 135 Xingangxi Road, Guangzhou, P.R.China without uploading the electronic version.
(6) Plan of study and research in China ( Plan of study and research in China is prepared by Graduate applicant including personal academic background and the research plan during the graduate study. No less than 1000 words)
(7) Physical examination and blood test results (see attachment 1 for templates. The results should be in English or Chinese, stamped with the hospital's official seal and issued no more than six months ago)
(8) Certificate of Non-Criminal Record (please consult local relevant authorities for issuing a stamped version of official and valid documents)
(9) Application form of Chinese Government Scholarship (please consult local relevant authorities http://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn for issuing a stamped version of official and valid documents, Type: B; Agency No. of SYSU: 10558, applicants should print a hard copy with signature on it.)
(10) Supporting documents (award certificates or proof of experience)
(11) Commitment letter (see attachment 2 for the template. Applicants should pledge that the application information is true, legal and valid. (Please print and sign before uploading)
(12) Personal Information Form (automatically generated by the International Student Management System and uploaded after printing and signing)
Note: Application documents must be the original ones in Chinese or English. If the documents are in other languages, the original documents and notarized Chinese or English translation of the documents must be attached. Please make sure that the applicant's email address, WeChat number and contact phone number filled in on the system are accurate. We will send a notice of supplementary documents by email (E-mails will be sent by admissions@mail.sysu.edu.cn). Applicants are responsible for unsuccessful applications caused by failure to submit supplementary documents in time, notarized certificates not meeting the requirements or incorrect contact information.
V. Majors
Please refer to attachment 3 and 4 for the lists of majors for Chinese Government Scholarship-Chinese University Postgraduate Program (Doctor's Degree and Master' degree) in 2022 SYSU. The specific majors will be subject to the approval by the Ministry of Education. If the applied major does not fall within the lists above, the application for this type of scholarship program will be deemed invalid.

Ⅶ. Selection Procedures
1. Qualification Approval
SYSU will comprehensively review applicants' identification, highest degree certificates, academic transcripts, language proficiency levels, study plan, recommendation letters to decide on the assessment list.
2. Assessment
Assessment is organized by the divisions and is generally conducted in one of the following ways: (1) face-to-face interview; (2) face-to-face interview plus written tests. Specific assessment methods, location and time will be chosen by each division and notified to the applicants.
3. Admission Policy
Admission decisions will be based on applicants' qualification approval and assessment results, as well as their program choices. The results published by the Scholarship Management Department for the scholarship recipients' list shall prevail.
Pre-admission result will be released via the online application system in mid-June. The Admission Notice and the Visa Application Form for Foreigners to Study in China will be mailed to applicants between July and August according to the postal address provided by them in the application system.
4. Admitted applicants should apply for X1 visa at the Chinese embassy or consulate with the Admission Letter and the Foreign Student Visa Application Form. The X1 visa holders must go through residential formalities in the local public security departments within thirty days of entry into China. Otherwise, the admitted applicants will face expulsion. SYSU will not accept the registration of students without a valid student visa, and international students whose visas or residence permits have expired are not allowed to stay or conduct activities on campus.
Ⅷ. Others
1. Admitted students must complete registration procedures according to the registration date and location required in the Admission Letter. It is not allowed to register in advance. Those who have failed to register within the time limit without approval will be regarded as having given up their admission qualifications. Scholarship recipients will be disqualified.
2. In accordance with the relevant regulations and requirements of the Ministry of Education, SYSU will conduct a physical examination and review of admission eligibility for all admitted applicants after enrollment. Applicants who have fabricated materials to obtain admissions will have their admission qualifications and student status cancelled by SYSU.
3. Admitted students must participate in the annual review of scholarships as required. Those who fail to pass the assessment will be suspended or disqualified from the scholarship.
