Sun Yat-sen University, founded by Dr. Sun Yat-sen and with an educational tradition spanning over 100 years, is a preeminent research, academic and cultural center and the premier location for talent development in South China. With five campuses in the three cities of Guangzhou, Zhuhai and Shenzhen, and ten affiliated hospitals, the University is striving to become a world-class university and global center of learning. In order to comprehensively enhance the influence of regional education and attract more foreign students to study, Sun Yat-sen University will recruit outstanding students from all over the world to study for master’s and doctoral degrees at their own expense.
I. Eligibility
1. Applicants should be non-Chinese citizens with a valid foreign passport.
2. Applicants should be in good health and meet the physical standards that are required for applying for a student visa or residence permit.
3. Applicants to master’s programs must hold a bachelor’s degree; applicants to doctoral programs must hold a master’s degree.
4. Applicants should be friendly to China, hardworking and diligent in their studies, upstanding and law-abiding, without any recorded history of their having broken the rules and regulations of their school, and without any other security penalties or criminal record.
5. Language requirements:
(1) Applicants (except those who apply for Business Administration (International Business Administration)) should have the certificate of HSK 5 (with 180 points or above), or other equivalent Chinese Learning Certificates; Applicants who complete bachelor or master education with Chinese as the language of instruction can submit certificates of Chinese language proficiency issued by their universities and can be exempted from providing HSK Certificates after SYSU’s verification.
(2) Applicants of Business Administration (International Business Administration) (hereinafter referred to as IMBA) should submit proof of TOEFL or IELTS, TOEFL≥79 (15 or above in each subject) or IELTS≥6.5 (5.5 or above in each subject).

From 30th April to 24th May, 2019.
III. Application Procedure
1. Online registration
(1)Visit Sun Yat-sen International Student Service System (https://sysu.17gz.org/ ) to complete online application. Please choose “Self-funded” when doing the online application, upload application materials, fill in relevant information, download and print a hard copy of Application Form for International Students at Sun Yat-sen university.
(2) Application materials and their requirements are as follows (If the original copy of the following materials is written in non-Chinese/English, a notarized copy in Chinese/English is required):

Must be the certificate of deposit issued by bank, with the amount over RMB 100,000. If the proof is not the applicant himself/herself, the applicant shall provide the corresponding relationship proof. |

In addition to the application materials detailed above, applicants should submit other supplementary materials in time according to the requirements of SYSU.
2. Submit the application materials or send by post
(1) Applicants should submit or send the printed and signed copies of their application documents (in duplicate) to the Admissions Office (Office of International Students’ Affairs) before the application deadline, see the contact information of Admission Office (Office of International Students’ Affairs). No late applications will be accepted.
(2) Applicants should provide accurate information of his or her own contact E-mail, telephone number and address. During the enrollment period, students must be in contact and reply to all E-mails from SYSU in good time. If students fail to reply to the mail in time or fail to submit supplementary materials according to the requirements within the prescribed time, their application will be deemed to have been abandoned.
IV. Selection Procedure:
1. After the application deadline, SYSU will organize a panel of experts to review the application documents and admit applicants on the overall assessment of their scores, study plans or research proposals and all other supporting documents. During the process, long-distance or face-to-face interviews will be conducted, if necessary.
2. In June, 2019, pre-admission results will be sent to applicants via emails or the application website.
3. In July, 2019, admission materials will be posted to recipients according to the postal addresses provided by the recipients on the application system.
4. The admitted applicants should apply for X1 visa from the Chinese Embassy or Chinese Consulate with their Admission Letter and the Visa Application for Study in China (JW202). And change X1 visa into a Residence Permit for Foreign Students within 30 days after enter China. Otherwise, the admitted applicants will face expulsion. Besides, SYSU won’t accept registration of students without a valid student visa.

2. Overall Insurance and Benefit Plan (Including Loss of Life Insurance, Accidental Injury Medical Treatment Insurance and Hospitalization Medical Insurance): RMB800/person/year.
VI . Accommodation and Insurance
1. Self-funded international students should arranged accommodation by themselves.
2. SYSU implements an insurance system covering all international students. International students must insure themselves in accordance with relevant regulations of China and SYSU. If the student does not insure themselves as required, he or she must purchase insurance within a limited period, otherwise SYSU will refuse to register them. If a current international student is without insurance, then he or she will be dismissed from university.
VII . Additional Information
1. Self-funded postgraduate program only recruits full-time students.
2. Students’ Chinese language proficiency (including IMBA students) should meet the relevant regulations of the Ministry of Education and the requirements of SYSU before graduation.
3. Admitted freshmen can apply for Guangdong Government Outstanding International Students Scholarship. Outstanding international postgraduate students can get the scholarship for first school year. The amount of scholarship for Phd students is RMB30, 000 per academic year for each student. The amount of scholarship for master students is RMB20, 000 per academic year for each student. Students can continue to apply for this scholarship based on the related regulation and their scores. Specific application requirements can refer to Notice for applying 2019/2020 academic year Guangdong Government Outstanding International Student Scholarship for New Students (Appendix 4).
4. Students who are accepted must register at the date and the address according to “Sun Yat-sen University Admission Notice”. Registration in advance will not be accepted.
