2025 China Link Short-Term Scientific Exchange Scholarship Program Application Guidelines

To foster academic ties and mutual exchanges between Chinese and foreign young generation, and to build a platform for the scientific exchanges between global young researchers and scholars, the China Scholarship Council (CSC) has established the China Link Short-Term Scientific Exchange Scholarship Program (hereinafter referred to as “China Link Scholarship”). This program provides funds to outstanding international students and scholars to conduct short-term research in China. For program details, please refer to Attachment 1. Based on the CSC’s official project announcement and the specific situation of our university, these application guidelines are formulated:
Eligibility
1. Applicants must be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China and be in sound physical and mental health.
2. General scholar applicants shall be under 45 years old; Senior scholar applicants shall be under 50 years old.
3. Applicants shall be full-time students or full-time academic staff at CSC’s foreign partner universities by the time of application and for the entire duration of their proposed stay in China. For the list of foreign partner universities, please refer to Attachment 2.
4. Applicants shall start study in China no later than August 31, 2026.
5. Applicants’working Language shall either be Chinese or English.
6. Funded fields of research: All disciplines other than Chinese language study,please refer to Attachment 4 and Attachment 5.
Funding
Successful applicants will receive a full scholarship for the duration of their stay in China, which includes tuition waiver, free on-campus accommodation, and comprehensive medical insurance. A monthly stipend will also be provided in accordance with the standards of the Chinese Government Scholarship for general or senior scholars. Specific funding details and standards are subject to CSC’s official announcement.
Application Procedures
1. CSC Online Application
Applicants shall log into the “Chinese Government Scholarship Information System” (http://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn), select Program Category “Type B”, choose either “general scholar” or “senior scholar”, and complete the application form (Sun Yat-sen University Enrollment Number: 10558). After submitting the form online, applicants should download and print the Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form.
2. Sun Yat-sen University Online Application
Applicants shall register on the website of the Office of International Students’ Affairs of Sun Yat-sen University (http://iso.sysu.edu.cn) and submit the following materials under the “Chinese Government Scholarship Program” section no later than May 15, 2025 (for those planning to come to China in the summer or autumn semester of 2025) or December 20, 2025 (for those planning to come to China in the spring semester or summer of 2026):
a. Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form
b. Please download the form from the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System, sign the last page, then scan and upload the signed copy.
c. Clear scanned copies of a valid ordinary passport and personal photos.
d. Proof of current enrollment or employment issued by the applicant’s home university.
e. Academic transcripts of the highest degree obtained.
f. Study Plan: A personal statement or research proposal (500+ words) written in either Chinese or English.
g. Foreigner Physical Examination Form or Personal Health Statement.
h. Certificate of Non-criminal Record or Personal Statement of Non-criminal Record.
I. Language proficiency certificate (Chinese or English).
J. A letter of recommendation from the current university.
k. Other Supporting Documents (optional).
Review Process
1. Sun Yat-sen University will review applicants’ eligibility for enrollment, select recommended candidates, and issue pre-admission letters.
2. The university will submit the list of recommended candidates to the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System.
3. Final scholarship results of the admission will be announced by the CSC.
