Application Guidelines for the 2017 Chinese Government Scholarship-Chinese University Postgraduate Program, Sun Yat-sen University

I. Introduction
The “Chinese Government Scholarship –Chinese University Postgraduate Program”, a full scholarship set up by the Ministry of Education of China (MOE) in 2008, is aimed at promoting Chinese higher education brand on an international basis. Enrolment is managed directly by China’s key universities. As a key comprehensive university, Sun Yat-sen University undertakes the enrolment of international postgraduates under this government scholarship.
II. Eligibility
1. Applicants should be non-Chinese citizens and be in good health.
2. Education background and age limit:
① Applicants for master's degree studies should have obtained a bachelor's degree and be under the age of 35.
② Applicants for doctoral degree studies should have obtained a master's degree and be under the age of 40.
3. Applicants should not be a registered student in Chinese universities at the time of application (except for those who graduated from Chinese university for one year or longer.)
4. The applicant must have good scientific research ability and good knowledge of specialized courses.
5. Most of master's and doctoral programs at SYSU are taught in Chinese. In principle, the applicants should have a relevant command of Chinese proficiency.
① Those who take the courses of sciences and technology or medical sciences in Chinese should have the certificate of HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test) Level 3 or above(or New HSK Level 4, over 180 points);
② Those who intend to major in liberal arts (major for Chinese language exclusive), economics, managerial science and international trade should have the certificate of HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test) Level 6 or above (or New HSK Level 5, over 180 points).
③ For those whose Chinese proficiency level have not met the requirements and wish to take Chinese-taught courses before major studies commence, they are expected to have obtained the new HSK Level 4 for programs in the humanities, economics, management, law, arts, or Level 3 for programs in sciences, engineering and medicine. Only by passing the required new HSK test within the year could they start their major studies.
6. The applicant must be in good behavior with no bad hobbies.
Note: This scholarship is not available to students majoring in one’s native languages or in a third-country language such as English or French etc.
Ⅲ. Scholarship details
1. Tuition: Waive.
2. Accommodation: Free on-campus accommodation (The successful candidates can only be arranged a bed in the Double Room ).
3. Living allowance: RMB3,000/month/person for a master candidate; RMB3,500 /month/person for a doctoral candidate.
4. Comprehensive medical insurance
5. International Round-trip Travel Expenses: born by the candidates themselves.
Ⅳ. How to apply
Step 1: Complete the online scholarship application
Visit http://www.csc.edu.cn/laihua or http://www.campuschina.org (click “Application Online” to log in)to complete application (Agency No. of Sun Yat-sen University at CSC: 10558), download and print out the Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship and then sign the form.
Step 2: SYSU entrance application
Applicants are required to make another online application on http://application.sysu.edu.cn, and then download and print out the SYSU Application Form for International Students. When fill in the application form, choose “Chinese Government Scholarship-Chinese University Program”.
Step 3: Post the hard copies of application documents
Applicants are required to send all the required documents to Sun Yat-Sen University by post or in person before March 20, 2017.

If applicants have published papers, the abstracts should be enclosed during submission of their application documents.
Note:
① Applicants are expected to submit a complete set of application materials. Incomplete application materials will be rejected. No matter whether the candidates are accepted or not, all the application materials will not be returned.
②Applicants are expected to keep their phones open and check their email regularly as SYSU Admissions Office will contact them when necessary.
VI. Application Deadline

VII. Result Release Time
The applicant may check the result on the website of I.S.O. (iso.sysu.edu.cn) in June 2017.
